How To Go #Viral & Rock #Social Media: A @KidRock Case Study (Video)
I get a chuckle when I hear a social media “guru” include a viral video in a strategy plan for a brand. There are no magic ingredients that will make a video go viral. There are some elements that can help your chances but there are no guarantees. You need to have RELEVANCE, PASSION and EMOTION to give your content a chance to go viral and rock social media.
Kid Rock just one-upped the best of social media gurus with his “viral” video called “Americans” which he labels as a “PSA film by Kid Rock and Sean Penn”. Kid Rock did it all correctly. Let me put it so even his fans can understand…he fucking killed it. He’s promoting and you are blinded by all the perfect ingredients to even be bothered by it. Even in the title, he deflects by labeling it a “PSA”. Another nice move was teaming with an Academy Award winner and including his name in the title. Then you get to the content which has every element mentioned above and is superbly produced. Both sides of a heated Presidential election are represented and the writing is brilliant comedy while attacking a very sensitive topic.
Kid’s description of the video sets it up perfectly: “Americans” is a short, public service film starring Sean Penn and Kid Rock, directed by Jameson Stafford. The goal of the film is to tear down the one-dimensional political stereotypes portrayed by the media by confronting them head on. It reminds us that what really matters is that we’re all Americans, with diverse thoughts, opinions and stances on issues. We are millions of unique, individual parts, the sum of which comprise a whole that is the shining beacon of freedom throughout the world. The film reminds us to be proud of our differences, and to never forget that we’re all in this together as Americans.
Kid Rock crushed it about as hard as he did that gang of suspects be busted up at a Waffle House in Atlanta a few years ago. Wait. Was that a promotion, too?? Probably. Did you know Kid Rock has a new CD called “Rebel Soul” available Nov 19th? You, and a million others, know now.
